ID of request in RUN:

3569

Practical Instruction:

Cause of the condition:
Stem borers that bore through the trunk of the tree, hence secondary infection of the trunk by a fungus coupled with insects attracted due to the smell from the oozing sap
Control
- Control the stem borers by spraying the tree with Dursban, an insecticide mixed with Redomil, a fungicide.
- Make a paste of Redomil and apply around the wound.
- Also do drenching with copper-based fungicide e.g Mancozeb around the tree so that it can minimize the spread.
- Spray the whole tree with Redomil to control other fungal inmfections that affect leaves and fruits.

Conditions for success:

If no further injury is subjected to the tree. Avoid placing barbed wire on tree trunks because it causes injury and wounds and invites fungal infections.

Conditions for failure:

If you fail to spray with the recommended fungicides.

Expected short term effect:

Plant would should be able to heal in a few weeks times.

Expected mid-term effect:

If conditions are proper, there should be a healthy plant.

Expected long-term effect:

Good harvest of crop
