Instruction pratique: | 1. For the control of Coffee Berry Borer (CBB), recommended controls include open pruning, frequent and regular picking of ripe berries, and Remove and destroy fallen berries to reduce the incidence of the pest over time.
2. Collect all the remaining berries after harvest. This breaks the cycle of the pest. Coffee berry is the only known host of CCB.
3. Collect fallen berries. Collected berries should be buried under. If sun-dried, place under fine nets smeared with grease or oil to capture escaping borers.
4. Prune the lower unproductive branches of the tree to keep the coffee bushes at reasonable sizes to aid in complete collection of all the berries at the time of harvest.
5. When damage is very high, where chemical intervention is inevitable, endosulfan (Thiodan) can be used at manufacturer recommended rates, and the application must be supervised by an extension worker. This must be applied at least 6 week before harvest. |
